Tourniquet was formed in Los Angeles in 1990. Nine full length studio albums later, (plus EP’s, live album, acoustic release, and numerous Ted Kirkpatrick solo albums,) the members of Tourniquet remain committed to creating intense music. Co-founder, drummer, main songwriter, and mastermind Ted Kirkpatrick’s passion for classical music and technical metal nds its way into many Tourniquet songs, resulting in their music being described as “Beethoven Meets Frankenstein”. As Tourniquet’s music blends elements of many different styles, two things stand out… melody and originality. Tourniquet is known as a “musician’s band” and have appeared in Modern Drummer, Guitar World, and many other musicians magazines.
With worldwide sales of over 350,000 units, over 5,000,000 YouTube views, and fans across the globe, Tourniquet’s presence is unmistakable. Tourniquet has worked with top producers including Bill Metoyer, Jim Faraci, and Neil Kernon. Top musicians have also graced Tourniquet albums – including guitarists Marty Friedman, Frank Marino, Pat Travers, Chris Poland, Karl Sanders (Nile), Scotti Hill (Skid Row), and Bruce Franklin (Trouble). Plus vocalists Chris Jericho (Fozzy), Tim Ripper Owens (ex-Judas Priest), Michael Sweet (Stryper, ex Boston), Dug Pinnick (King’s X), and Corey Glover (Living Colour). Due to the classical in uence of Ted’s writing – also present on Tourniquet albums are members of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
Their lyrical in uences span a wide range – everything from Old Testament narratives to Edgar Allan Poe type horror. Besides sharing their faith, a unique trademark of the band is their ongoing message of animal welfare. Long time animal activist and vegan Ted Kirkpatrick says: “How animals – all animals – are treated matters greatly to me. To have a platform to share that through music is a privilege.”
Tourniquet have performed in the US, Canada, Europe, and South America and fans have been known to drive (or y) long distances just to see the band play. Tourniquet has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including HM magazine’s Favorite Band of the Decade, several #1 Metal singles, and six Dove Award nominations. The success of their “acoustic unplugged” shows has further advanced their strong reputation for musical integrity and versatility.

Veteran Metal Band TOURNIQUET Release “Gazing at Medusa” feat. Tim Ripper Owens and Chris Poland Tourniquet’s brand new album “Gazing at Medusa” has just been released via the band’s label Pathogenic Records. The nine track album features vocals by Tim Ripper Owens (ex- Judas Priest, ex-Iced Earth) and lead guitar by Chris Poland (ex-Megadeth, OHM). The title track has guest vocals by Deen Castronovo (ex-Journey, Revolution Saints).
Drummer Ted Kirkpatrick, who wrote all the music and lyrics for the album, describes the music: “A lot of the album sounds like getting punched in the face. Lots of aggression. As always, features some beautiful slow parts and classical riffs. Plus is has “atmosphere” – it feels “alive”. Fans are saying it sounds like a bit of a nod to our early albums, but with a fresh, modern metal overall feel and sound. To me, this album has the best production of all the Tourniquet releases. The instruments and voices are very separated, so everything is quite clear. Phenomenal lead guitar from Chris Poland – and I mean great. Ditto for Tim, with lots of different vocal stuff, harmonies, octaves, etc. Awesome guest vocals by Deen on the title track.”
The album, which was successfully funded by the band’s ultra-loyal fan base, is currently available on digital and streaming services – and on CD at tourniquet.net. Three different vinyl versions will be available early 2019.
Tim Ripper Owens – lead vocals
Chris Poland – lead guitar
Aaron Guerra – guitar, vocals
Ted Kirkpatrick – drums, bass
Deen Castronovo – guest lead vocals on title track
