Interview: Legion Of Bokor

Tell us about your latest release: the main concept; what fans should expect; what were/are your goals with it:

The Mosh: In fact, as always, our goal is to entertain our fans. We want them to have fun with us, to party with us. Therefore, we still stick to a catchy mix of hard rock and heavy metal. What’s special about the new album is, that it gives our audience a chance to also focus on the lyrics. There’s a lot of references to musicians, authors, philosophers and other celebrities. We also talk about our society that I feel is getting colder and ruder these days. I don’t think that the lyrics are too judgy, but you can use them as a base for reflection on some topics. For example, our title-track #Digital_Life – it’s all about losing your real life because of social media. Craving for likes and followers.

Did you have a specific sound in mind when you formed the band, or did that grow and evolve as you played together?

The Mosh: We’re all rock and metal musicians. We didn’t have the perfect plan for our sound – it developed during the years. And it is still developing. There’s no “ideal” for us, it’s all about “good enough for now”.

How does your writing process normally work out?

The Mosh: There’s no recipe for our writing process. Sometimes we jam, sometimes one of us has an idea and brings it to the rehearsal studio. As soon as we agree, that something sounds good, we start working on it, to make it work. And that is the real hard part of the process. Not the idea, but the execution.

What are your ambitions and how far do you want to push your band?

The Mosh: Ha, good question! As far as possible! We’d like to play a lot of shows, we’re ready to hit festival-stages. And we would like to do some touring again. If someone told me, I could make a life by being a full-time musician, I’d take the risk and go for it.

What are your influences/musical references and the impact those same influences had in your sound?

The Mosh: We like so many different rock and metal acts. From Guns n’Roses to Slipknot, from Metallica to Five Finger Death Punch, from AC/DC to Judas Priest. I think, if you listen closely, you can tell that I’ve been practicing my vocals a lot with songs sung by Alice Cooper, Ian Gillan and Mike Patton. And it’s the same with the sound of the band. A lot of influences that just got absorbed in our songwriting.

What’s next for you?

The Mosh: It was an intense year with the production of our album, the release show and everything that goes with it. This year, we will release two more official music videos on our YouTube channel. And we are busy setting up more shows for next year. If you guys want to support us, take a look at our webshop, buy our music and merch or listen to our songs on Spotify and YouTube. Just live that #Digital_Life!
