Interview with Agon
Tell us about your latest release: the main concept; what fans should expect; what were/are your goals with it:
Hollowed Lake is about my personal feelings I was having at the time, feeling sad and uninspired about my life. I didn’t find anything enjoyable at the time and just felt alone, isolated from the world. I was just wanting to release how I felt at the moment through my music, and whoever wanted to hear it could hear it.
Did you have a specific sound in mind when you formed the band, or did that grow and evolve as you played together?
I was going through lots of genres trying to figure out which one I wanted to portray myself in my music. I finally thought of some atmospheric ideas and incorporated some black metal elements to it, and finally I found the sound I wanted to portray.
How does your writing process normally work out?
I usually begin by creating a guitar riff and then start building off of it. I create other riffs, add drum loops, add bass, manipulate some sound samples, and finally add vocals.
What are your ambitions and how far do you want to push your band?
I want to have my music grow big in the underground scene and to have it expand as far off as it can go. Those are my goals, but a man can dream, can’t he?
What are your influences/musical references and the impact those same influences had in your sound?
One of my biggest influences for my music is Pink Floyd. They have forever changed my musical taste and the way I consume music since the first time I got into them. Their psychedelic and progressive sound greatly influenced the way I wrote my album and David Gilmour’s guitar work has influenced the way I play guitar. Burzum has influenced my music as well because he himself was a one man band and his music is what introduced me to the black metal genre, even though I don’t agree with all his views.
What’s next for you?
I am currently working on my second album which I tend to release within this year. Also hopefully someday, I can perform my music live to an audience.
