Interview: Hoofstomper

Tell us about your latest release: the main concept; what fans should expect; what were/are your goals with it:

This is our first release, which could also be called our demo, but for us it’s much more than that. For us it’s a beginning of a story which we are aching to tell, hence the title “Chapter I”. In the story we follow an unnamed person through his journey through fear, loss, metamorphoses and acceptance of changes. It’s strange, it’s unstable and it’s everchanging, so expect the unexpected.

Did you have a specific sound in mind when you formed the band, or did that grow and evolve as you played together?

We are trying to fuse the coldness of Black metal with genres that generally would not be seen as compatible, but in our hearts we feel have elements enhancing the chilling atmosphere and feelings of loss and fear. So – Deadbolt-ish Psychobily, Dark Surf Rock and Country music.

How does your writing process normally work out?

We don’t believe that we wrote these songs ourselves. We believe they were delivered to us by the demonic entity known as Hoofstomper, be it in a dream or by something others might call “Inspiration”.

What are your ambitions and how far do you want to push your band?

Our goal is to corrupt as many souls as possible by sharing the music given to us by Hoofstomper.

What are your influences/musical references and the impact those same influences had in your sound?

Deadbolt gave us fear, Angry Johnny and the Killbillies gave us sadness, Those Poor Bastards gave us darkness, Behemoth and Mgla gave us power, Bölzer and Zeal and Ardor gave us initiative to experiment. And Hoofstomper gave us the music.

What’s next for you?

“Chapter II”, “Chapter III”, “Chapter IV” and so on… Until the end.
