Interview: STEELWINGS (Sweden)
Tell us about your latest release: the main concept; what fans should expect; what were/are your goals with it:
STEELWINGS hail from Sweden and play classic hard rock/heavy metal with roots firmly from the 80’s. The new album “Back” shows the band in uncompromising mood and undiminished with age.
The albums feel is mostly about having a good time but there are also songs with a bit deeper lyrical ideas. With this in mind, STEELWINGS tried to create songs with slightly different approaches to make a more tonally interesting album. At the time of making the new record, the group didn’t have a record deal and recorded in their own studio. Because of different commitments within the band, “Back” took some time to finish.
“Back” was released worldwide in February 2019 via Sliptrick Records.
The band also have plans for a red vinyl special edition of the album and you can find out more about that by visiting their website at steelwings.se
With many good reviews it’s obvious that “Back” is a record that has its own sound and songs that sticks out in a good rocking way.
Did you have a specific sound in mind when you formed the band, or did that grow and evolve as you played together?
On “Back”, the band have paid special attention to keeping that 80’s vibe but with an updated sound, without being too polished.
How does your writing process normally work out?
No special way, it all depends. Most often one member come with an idea for a song and then the rest of the band helps out to finish it.
What are your ambitions and how far do you want to push your band?
We hope all will give STEELWINGS a chance and listening to our new record “Back”. We also hope the fans will help us by getting the physical record and not just streaming it on Spotify. I mean, Spotify is great but come on…it’s nothing compared with the feeling of having a real record in you hand.
Keep up the good work with supporting not just STEELWINGS but all great Hard Rock / Heavy Metal out there.
What are your influences/musical references and the impact those same influences had in your sound?
Great Hard Rock / Heavy Metal bands from the 80’s.
What’s next for you?
Just keep on rockin’ !!!
