Interview with Carlos Lichman

Tell us about your latest release: the main concept; what fans should expect; what were/are your goals with it:

Coming to his sixth solo record, CARLOS LICHMAN presents a number of different characteristics compared to his previous work as both solo artist and sideman. A musical and audiovisual project based on the cultural memory of the city of Porto Alegre being funded by Funproarte, a municipal fund to support the artistic and cultural production of Porto Alegre and a reference in Brazil. “Lendas Urbanas de Porto Alegre” becomes, for the first time, a concept album in the guitarist’s discography.
The album features nine urban legends that are musicalized with modern instruments and arrangements within styles such as Hard Rock, Blues and Fusion. Selected legends were: Bará no Mercado Público, A Moça do Cemitério, Crime da Rua dos Arvoredos, Obirici, Igreja Nossa Senhora das Dores, Museu Júlio de Castilhos, Hospital São Pedro, Castelo do Alto da Bronze e Maria Degolada. In addition to the composition and recording the project also has a part is divided into the production of 15 videos that will be released on the musician’s social networks. “Lendas Urbanas de Porto Alegre” marks yet another evolutionary process by CARLOS LICHMAN as both a composer and guitarist, but also as an artist.
Responsible for the compositions and also recording all the guitar, bass and keyboard lines, there is the participation of drummer Alexandre Olly and guitarists who contributed in the following tracks: Caca Barros in “Museu Júlio de Castilhos”, Miguel Mega in “Hospital São Pedro ”And Nelson Jr. in “Igreja Nossa Senhora das Dores ”, as well as keyboardist Rafael Piamolini in“ Castelo do Alto do Bronze”. In “Bará do Mercado Público” Carlos shares the composition with Alexandre Olly. Recordings of the album were performed at two locations: guitar, bass and keyboards were recorded at Active Music studio in Bournemouth, England, while drumming sessions were recorded at LST Records studio in Porto Alegre. Mixing and mastering were done at Cookie Monter Studio in Porto Alegre, by George Demitrius.

Did you have a specific sound in mind when you formed the band, or did that grow and evolve as you played together?

Rock and metal but modern at the same time

How does your writing process normally work out?

Based on my music studies on the guitar

What are your ambitions and how far do you want to push your band?

Become huge as metal rock monster as Iron Maiden, Malmsteen, Metallica and so on.

What are your influences/musical references and the impact those same influences had in your sound?

All great shredders from 80´s – Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Jason becker.

What’s next for you?

My new album with vocals. I am writing a new song. I am gonna release a single next year with vocal. I just don´t have the singer yet but I have few names in mind.
