Interview with Emerald Shine
Tell us about your latest release: the main concept; what fans should expect; what were/are your goals with it:
Our goal on the concept album Misty Tales was to tell a “fan fiction” story about the Tolkien’s elves: What if they still lived in our world, even today? What would they think of us, people, and what would they tell us if we met them? The fans can therefore expect some “fantasy metal”, as we call it, as we did our best to express the story also in the music, not just in the lyrics.
Did you have a specific sound in mind when you formed the band, or did that grow and evolve as you played together?
Partly we knew since the beginnings: we wanted female vocals, flutes and atmospheric metal music… Partly our sound evolved later during the band’s existence: we added male voice, harsh vocals, the harp and violin… And we also started to enjoy and add some progressive elements to our music. That all became a part of the sound our band has nowadays.
How does your writing process normally work out?
Most of the songs for the album Misty Tales were composed by our frontwoman; nowadays, however, things start to be a bit different, as more and more members are bringing their own ideas or even whole songs. Therefore, we may change our writing process for our future albums. We shall see. 🙂
What are your ambitions and how far do you want to push your band?
That is simple: as far as possible! 🙂
What are your influences/musical references and the impact those same influences had in your sound?
The members of Emerald Shine have different tastes and each one has been influenced by something a bit different; our drummer likes technical and progressive music, which can be heard in his playing, while our main composer enjoys mainly folk metal… Some of the bands that have influenced Emerald Shine’s music the most are Eluveitie, Blind Guardian and Wintersun.
What’s next for you?
Nowadays, at the end of the year, we are in the writing process, composing some new songs and slowly gathering ideas for a future album. We are thinking about releasing a new single, probably in the spring… Besides that, we are also planning shows for 2020, which are gonna be both inside and ouside our country. We are looking forward to everything the future holds for us! 🙂
