Interview with Frust

Tell us about your latest release: the main concept; what fans should expect; what were/are your goals with it:

I wanted to record a versitale album, that shows also my experimental side, like on the EP “Elements” but also form out “my style” of music and let Frust grow. An EP with four, partly, very different sounding tracks, isn´t perfect to show the listener what they can expect from you. So one of my main goals was, getting the fans and people that are new to Frust, deeper into my universe, and still keep the versatility the four-track-EP has. Even i have worked a lot on different sounds, and production-skills, i wanted to keep and evolve the “Frust-Sound”, i had and have in mind.

Did you have a specific sound in mind when you formed the band, or did that grow and evolve as you played together?

Not really a specific sound to be honest, but a mix somewhere between Sepultura, The Cure, Black and Post Metal-Bands. I started with the four songs on “Elements”, had not much expierence in mixing and mastering, the EP may has been a bit rougher produced than i wanted it, but it was fine as it was at this time. Over the last, almost a year, i ve defined my sound more concretly, and learned a lot about mixing and production, and i made a really big step.

How does your writing process normally work out?

It has became almost a daily ritual: I take my guitar, plug it into the amp, which is connected to my computers audio-interface and i jam for an hour, a few hours, it depends, and if some riff or chord-progression turns out to be cool, i ll start to work around it. The other process is that i ve a topic in my mind, or a melody, and or sometimes lyric, and than i ll start from that points.

What are your ambitions and how far do you want to push your band?

I want to reach people world wide, and get them in to my universe. I want my listeners grow into a solid fanbase.

What are your influences/musical references and the impact those same influences had in your sound?

I am really bad in calling references, because i even don´t know what genre i am playing. But i am influenced by a lot of bands from different genres, like The Cure, Alcest, Sepultura, Black Sabbath, Darkthrone, Heretoir, Austere …

What’s next for you?

I am curious how the album catches on the listeners, that´s a very exciting time, i am looking forward to talk, write, discuss about it and i have also already started to gather some ideas for the future releases.

Recurring Dreams will be released on April 4th via901514 Records DK .
